Amato Appointed Chair of the National Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine by the American College of Emergency Physicians


Christopher Amato, MD, FAAP, FACEP, was appointed chair of the National Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the 2008 American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Annual Scientific Assembly in Chicago.

Dr. Amato will serve as a liaison between the College and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section as a whole. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Amato served as the Chair-Elect in 2007 and as the Section Secretary in 2006. The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Committee is the second largest sub-section in ACEP, with more than 600 members.

Dr. Amato is the director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship and an attending pediatric emergency physician at Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Morristown, N.J. He is also the medical director of pediatric advanced life support for Atlantic Health. He is the recipient of the “Teacher of the Year” award from the Department of Emergency Medicine at Morristown (N.J.) Memorial Hospital. He is a member of Emergency Medical Associates (EMA).

Dr. Amato is a recognized researcher in the field of pediatric emergency medicine and is a frequent lecturer, both regionally and nationally, on pediatric emergency medicine topics. He recently lectured on the topic “Pediatric Trauma - How Children are Different” at the 2008 N.J. Statewide Conference on EMS, which took place in Atlantic City.

He completed his fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Hasbro Children’s Hospital at Brown University School of Medicine and was the pediatric chief resident at University of Maryland Medical Systems.
