Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) was established in 1940. The hospital is a level 2 medical center and serves 62,000 veterans with an annual emergency department volume of 27,000. The hospital is licensed for 58 general medical, surgical and mental health beds. It also features a 69-bed long-term care unit.

The medical center serves the veterans of 19 counties in southeastern North Carolina and two counties in northeastern South Carolina. Services include extended care and rehabilitation, health promotion and disease prevention, mental health, pharmacy, primary care and social work and a spinal cord injury program.

The Fayetteville VAMC is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and is recognized by The Joint Commission as one of the Top Performers on Key Quality Measures. It also is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and Nuclear Regulatory Commission, as well as the American College of Radiology for its Mammography Department and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its programs for the homeless.
