Hanifin Named “Outstanding Physician Assistant of the Year”

Christopher Hanifin, PA-C, a physician assistant with Emergency Medical Associates, has been named “Outstanding Physician Assistant of the Year” by the New Jersey State Society of Physicians Assistants. The annual award recognizes clinicians who improve the health of New Jersey residents while improving the practice environment for physician assistants.

Hanifin earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-professional studies from the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Seton Hall Physician Assistant Program in 1999. After serving as a clinical preceptor, Hanifin joined the faculty at Seton Hall University in 2003. He currently teaches subjects related to cardiovascular medicine and his first book, Heart Sounds: A Cardiac Auscultation Primer was published in 2010. He recently was appointed interim chair of the Department of Physician Assistant at the university’s School of Health and Medical Sciences.

Hanifin began his clinical career in South Bend, Ind., and returned to New Jersey in 2001. He became one of the first physician assistants to work in the Department of Emergency Medicine at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He currently works with Emergency Medical Associates as a per diem physician assistant in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Morristown Medical Center.
