Mollie K. O’Brien, general counsel and senior vice president of legal affairs for Emergency Medical Associates (EMA) and general counsel and chief operating officer of Superior Insurance Company, was named as one of “New Jersey’s 2011 Best 50 Women in Business” by NJBIZ. An independent panel of judges recognized O’Brien for the outstanding contributions she has made in both the field of law and her community.

O’Brien, of Mendham, is a litigation and health law attorney with trial experience and corporate health law training. After obtaining her law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law, Newark, O’Brien specialized in medical malpractice litigation in the defense of health care practitioners. Her extensive courtroom work resulted in her becoming certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a civil trial attorney. O’Brien then went on to expand her practice to include management of corporate physician practice issues.

Before joining EMA and Superior Insurance Company, RRG, O’Brien served as staff attorney and risk manager to a large New Jersey hospital system where she provided both legal advice and loss prevention services to health care providers and the institution itself. In her current role, O’Brien oversees EMA’s legal operations. Additionally, in her role with Superior Insurance Company, RRG, she oversees all claims and litigation, supervises the risk management department and monitors the day-to-day operations.

O’Brien is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the Federal District Court of New Jersey. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Health Lawyers Association and the New Jersey Bar Association.

New Jersey’s 2011 Best 50 Women in Business is compiled by NJBIZ, a weekly business journal. O’Brien will formally accept the award during a ceremony March 28 at The Palace at Somerset Park.

Headquartered in Livingston, Emergency Medical Associates (www.ema.net) provides emergency medicine and hospitalist services to hospitals and health care systems in New Jersey and New York, treating almost 1 million patients annually.
