Mission Statement:
EMA is a group of professional physician partners, uniquely supported by exceptional solutions for the measurable success of our hospital partners.
EMA strives to provide the optimal business model for emergency physicians, including:
- A stimulating professional environment
- Professional independence
- Financial security
Since 1977, EMA has offered opportunities for all physicians to participate in the group’s ownership, governance, decision-making process, and earnings. This has enabled us to attract and retain quality career emergency physicians and long-term hospital clients, leading in turn to outstanding tenured work opportunities and business success. The manner in which EMA relates to our physician partners is embodied in a comprehensive employment agreement that can only be altered by two-thirds of the voting interest of the Partnership.
As an EMA employee, you will join approximately 400 physicians who provide exceptional patient care services in over 20 EMA managed Emergency Departments. EMA offers a wide variety of practice opportunities ranging from community hospitals to trauma centers and teaching institutions.

EMA is a truly democratic emergency physician group that is 100% physician owned and managed (by all the physicians, not just one or a small handful). Any new physician can become a full and equal partner, with an equal voice in governance, within four years.

EMA supports the professional development of the entire ED team (physicians, associate practitioners, nurses, and the administrative staff) through a variety of robust CME courses, seminars, and educational conferences on pertinent issues to keep our clinicians abreast of industry regulations and trends. Educational programs are provided in both standard on and off-site formats in addition to web-based formats.
Opportunities are available for growth and development throughout the EMA management organization. This includes opportunities such as Regional Vice Presidents, ED Directors, Associate Directors and EMS Directors, as well as Academic appointments at our teaching institutions. Corporate committee participation within EMA provides a training ground for future posts in the career progression of our physicians. In addition, EMA supports our physicians in holding leadership roles in national, regional and local professional societies, such as ACEP, SAEM, AAEM, ACOEP and state chapters and associations.
EMA physicians are encouraged to participate in educational seminars, lectures, and publication of various articles, books, reviews, and reports. EMARF (EMA Research Foundation) provides financial support, offering a practical and enjoyable route to professional growth for the physician with academic aspirations, or who simply wishes to be well-grounded in all aspects of Emergency Medicine. Through this foundation, physicians have published over 900 articles in academic research journals.
